Do you want to make a pair of footpaws that are quite comfortable, yet can be worn just about anyplace, even in public, without people getting upset about you not wearing shoes? You can! The footpaws I made have been worn while driving, around the house, at a con, and even going to a few local stores.

What you need is a pair of old socks, that go up mid-calf on your leg, duct tape, and a good pair of scissors.

First, put on the sock. Then take a strip of duct tape, and go from below your toes on the bottom of your foot, all the way to your heel, and go up to the top of the sock. Another strip will go from the top of your toes to the top of the sock. A final strip will go from the top of the sock, down your leg, around the heel and ankle, and back up to the other side of the sock. What you just did was create some strengthening for the duct tape paw.

This next procedure requires that you not wrap your foot tightly, rather, just enough to get the general shape of your own foot, and to allow you to cut it off. In short, tape the foot lightly.

Next, start taking strips, and go left-right across the bottom and top of your foot. Don't forget to do the toes as well. Keep going, til you get to the top of the sock. Make sure all the sock is covered.

Finally, take a marker, and mark on the inside of the leg, from the top of the sock, down to the side of the foot. Make another marking from the side of the foot, all around. Make a final marking from where the two marks meet, to the other side of the foot, on the outside of the leg or ankle, along the top of the foot. You've just created a pattern, a place to cut.

Then cut starting at the mark you made on the inside of the leg, going all the way down to the marking on the side of the foot. You may be able to take the duct tape foot off at this point. Don't worry if not. Then cut along the side-of-foot marks, to get your pattern for the bottom of your foot. Now cut along the final mark, which gives you your final two patterns, the top of the foot, and the leg patterns.

It's up to you to trace it onto some cloth, like muslin.

Trace it all out onto the fur, making sure you've got the left/right parts correct, and not on the wrong foot. I made this mistake, though you can see it in the tracing in the pics. Making a footpaw for the other foot pretty much corrected the problem.

First sew the top of foot piece to the bottom of foot piece. Try it on. It should fit well. Then sew on the leg piece, starting the sewing along the top of the foot, all the way down to the back of the foot. Once you're done, you should have a footpaw that fits you well.

You'll have an opening at the side of the leg that you will want to close in some sort of way. I used velcro.

Finally, you'll want to put pawpads on. What you use, is up to you. It's usually best to shave the fur down to the backing, before gluing it on. It's not unusual to have other people use silicone caulk for their pads.
